Hello Open Government Partnership Summit in Basque country!👋

Yesterday I joined the first day of the Open Government Partnership Global Summit in Vitoria-Gasteiz. I’m looking forward to building relations and collaborations here until Friday! 🤝

I represent Open Knowledge Sweden, meet Open Knowledge Foundation Network and talk about my work at MetaSolutions AB with EntryScape and the Swedish National Data Workshop (Nationell dataverkstad) together with many municipalities, regions and state agencies. I am available to talk about open data, open government, digital sovereignty, metadata, open standards, datamodelling for true interoperability and civictech projects like Handlingar.se featured by Civic Tech Sweden.

The Summit gathers more than 2000(!) high-level representatives of governments, civil society leaders, and policy-makers from around the world to exchange experiences, best practices, and progress on open government initiatives and implementation on key issues.

The event was like the traditional Swedish democracy festival in the start of the summer in Almedalen on the island of Gotland in Sweden.

Highlights and insights

  • An overwhelming support for digital sovereignty.
  • The support for open government is growing in pro-democracy countries.
  • Meeting Swedish central national government about the Open Government Partnership and representing civil society via the non-profit association Open Knowledge Sweden.
  • There is very much a need for more open government to enable government efficiency and reduce corruption.
  • Sweden is not viewed as a leader in transparency anymore, barely anyone talked about Sweden.
  • Many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America are making great strides towards increasing open government.
  • Data needs to be rejuvenated with interoperability to enable more value and seamless magical experiences.

¡Hola Cumbre Global de la Open Government Partnership en el País Vasco!👋

Ayer participé en la primera jornada de la Cumbre Global de la Open Government Partnership en España. ¡Estoy deseando establecer relaciones y colaboraciones hasta el viernes!

Represento a Open Knowledge Sweden, me reúno con la red Open Knowledge Foundation y hablo de mi trabajo en MetaSolutions AB con EntryScape y el Taller nacional de datos en Suecia (Nationell dataverkstad) juntos con muchos municipios, regiones y autoridades. Estoy disponible para hablar sobre open data, open government, digital sovereignty, metadata, open standards, datamodelling para una verdadera interoperability y proyectos civictech como Handlingar.se, presentado por Civic Tech Sweden.

La cumbre reúne a más de 2000(!) representantes de alto nivel de gobiernos, líderes de la sociedad civil y responsables políticos de todo el mundo para intercambiar experiencias, mejores prácticas y avances en iniciativas de gobierno abierto y su aplicación en cuestiones clave.

El evento fue similar al tradicional festival de la democracia sueca que se celebra a principios de verano en Almedalen, en la isla de Gotland, Suecia.

Aspectos destacados y conclusiones

  • Un apoyo abrumador a la soberanía digital.

  • El apoyo al gobierno abierto está creciendo en los países prodemocráticos.

  • Reunión con el Gobierno central sueco sobre la Alianza para el Gobierno Abierto y representación de la sociedad civil a través de la asociación sin ánimo de lucro Open Knowledge Sweden.

  • Existe una gran necesidad de un gobierno más abierto para permitir la eficiencia gubernamental y reducir la corrupción.

  • Suecia ya no se considera un líder en transparencia, casi nadie habló de Suecia.

  • Muchos países de África, Asia y América Latina están dando grandes pasos hacia un gobierno más abierto.

  • Los datos deben rejuvenecerse con interoperabilidad para permitir un mayor valor y experiencias mágicas sin fisuras.
